| SORTER, WILLIAM C.: Lives in Sec. 28, Ovid Twp. He was born in Steuben County, NY on January 3,
1837, the son of Jacob & Hannah (Clark) Sorter, whom were natives of the same county. The family arrived in Ovid Twp., Michigan in
1838. Jacob Sorter died in 1882 at age 80. In the family were eight children, three of whom
were born in New York, while five were born in Branch County. In 1864 William married Harriet Strong, daughter of
Calvin Strong, a Branch County pioneer. Mrs.
Sorter is a native daughter of Coldwater Twp. He
and his wife are members of the Methodist church in Kinderhook. (Source: A
