He had held a protracted meeting in Lee ten days, which broke up only the night previous to his leaving home. Mr. W. was greatly beloved by all who enjoyed his acquaintance. He has left a wife and six small children to lament his loss; but they have the consolation in their affliction, that their loss is his infinite gain. VOLUME 11 - ISSUE # 20 - April 20 MARRIAGE JOHN OAKES & LYDIA LUSE - At Albion, on the 2nd inst , by Rev. C. F. Stockwell, JOHN OAKES, Esq., Mrs. LYDIA M. LUSE, all of Albion. REV. JOHN NOBLE & SUSAN WARREN - At Jonesville, on Wednesday, March 21, by Rev. Thomas J. Champion, Rev. JOHN C. NOBLES. of Homer, to Miss SUSAN ANN WARREN, only daughter of D. S. Warren, Esq., of Jonesville. ASAHEL BAGG & MARY FINLEY - In Ravenna, Ohio, on the morning of Saturday by Rev. Mr. Atwater, Mr. ASAHEL S. BAGG to Miss MARY A. FINLEY, both of Detroit. DIED CAROLINE E. KINGSBURY In this village, on Monday evening, the 5th inst., CAROLINE E., wife of Frederic A. Kingsbury, in the 31st year of her age. Mrs Kingsbury was the daughter of Maj. Oringle Stone, of Brighton, Monroe Co., N.Y.; and half sister of the late Mrs. Malana Beardsley, who died on the 20th ult, and whose obituary notice was published at a fortnight since. Mrs. Kingsbury was a victim of consumption. At the instance of her medical adviser, she undertook a journey to her eastern friends, during the summer of 1846; from which, however, (it proving too much for her strength), she returned evidently enfeebled -. Since that time she gradually declined, until a week before her death, when she wasted with astonishing rapidity, until the hour of her dissolution. But death found her ready to depart." Mrs. Kingsbury made a profession of religion in 1832; and connected herself by letter, with the Presbyterian Church immediately on taking up her residence in Marshall, about five years ago. As a member of the church, she successfully endeavored to adorn her high vocation; and a consistent life, has attested the existence of a religious principle. In her later sickness she desired the visits of her pastor and took great delight in reading the scriptures, in prayer and religious conversation. To all who called upon her, she commended the excellence of the Christians hope; and upon many she urged the importance securing such an interest in Christ as would ensure his presence with them on their passage through the vale of death, and his welcome to the skies. Her absence will be deeply felt. We shall miss her as a friend, and as an active Christian; but God has taken her and his will be done. Her gentleness and decision - her pious principle and her diligence in religious duty, were worthy of imitation; and the memory of her virtues should be cherished to incite us on in wisdom's ways, which lie in pleasantness and terminate in peace. VOLUME 11 - ISSUE # 21 - April 23 DIED CAROLINE ROBINSON In this village, on the 11th inst, of consumption of Mrs. CAROLINE, wife of L. H. Robinson, and d daughter of the late Reuben Smith, Esq. of East Bloomfield, N. Y., in the 26th year of her age. In the death of Mrs. Robinson our society has lost one of its loveliest members. For firmness and decision she was unequaled. She was by nature endowed with those noble traits of character which . won the esteem and confidence of all who knew her; and those who knew her best loved her most. She had many near and dear friends who deeply mourn her loss. Her ear was ever ready for the tale of sorrow, and her hand was always open to relieve the destitute. She sympathised with the afflicted, and when her turn came to take the bed of sickness and death, she was ready and willing to go; and although she was afflicted with a long and suffering illness, she bore it with patience and christian fortitude, and was never known to murmur or complain. She has left a lonely and afflicted husband to mourn for her; but he mourns with the consolation that his loss is her gain.” [Statesman. REV. HARRIS C. GOODRICH In Tekonsha,on the 18th inst., HARRIS C. GOODRICH, Esq., in the 46th year of his age. The deceased was one of the earliest settlers of Calhoun county, having located himself in Marshall before it had a name, in the spring of 1831. Mr. Goodrich was born in Elizabethtown, Essex county, N. Y., and for some years before his removal west was engaged in business in Keeseville, where he married his wife. He was a man of more than ordinary powers of intellect; possessed strong powers of observation, and very general intelligence. He was the first sheriff of this county which office he held for several years, to the entire satisfaction of his constituents. He commenced the improvements in Tekonsha; laid out that village and held in that town several important offices. In his social intercourse he was highly esteemed, possessing great kindness of disposition, and affability of manner. He has been cut off in the midst of his years, leaving a widowed wife and five children, desolate and afflicted. To Him who tempers the wind to the shorn lamb,” would we most devoutly commend them. VOLUME 11 - ISSUE # 45 - OCT. 8 MARRIED SPENCER HUMESTON & MARY BLASHFIELD In Marshall on tiss 7th inst., by Rev. R. Hobart SPENCER HUMESTON and MARY G. BLASHFIELD, both of Clarendon. DIED HENRY WATROUS In this village last evening, HENRY WATROUS, second son of Randall Watrous, aged 17 years , 11 months and ten days. The deceased was born in the town of Perry (now) Wyoming county, N. Y. ., in 1829, and but recently with his parents and family took up a residence in Marshall. Just entering upon the verge of manhood, apparently full of life and vigor, there was none, among the joyous throng of his youthful companions, whose robust and manly form gave surer indications of a prolonged and active life. But disease has for the first time invaded the family circle and taken from mourning parents, and weeping brothers and sisters, an endeared and cherished one. Death has loosed the silver chord, and in early life sundered the near and dear relation he so lately bore to the living, and to the afflicted. It is becoming to submit to the dispensation of an All-Wise Providence; but the weakness of the human heart longs after cherished hopes, and in the intensity of first and full affliction, yields up with a fearful struggle, what the remorseless grave claims as its own. The precepts of the Gospel - time, the soother will at length reconcile the mind to a quiet submission. It is all ordered for the best good, and speaks to the hearts of those who suffer, a monitory lesson of preparation. Let us reflect then, how soon we must all follow in the same path, and how short a time it may it must be, before we too shall stand at the same portals. ‘ I would not live alway : I ask not to stay, Where storm after storms rises dark oer the Way; The few lurid mornings that dawn on us here, Are enough for Life's woes--full enough for its cheer.'
