I am researching the Colyar family which moved from North Carolina to Ohio in the early 1800's and then to Cass County, Michigan and then some on to Kosciusko County, Indiana or other places in the Midwest.
My great great grandmother was Sarah Colyer McCleary Thompson, born March 8, 1814, in Ohio, married William McCleary Jr. on December 6, 1832 in Cass County, Michigan, then married Samuel Thompson in early 1840's in Kosciusko County, Indiana, then moved to Osage County, Kansas, in 1869, where she died on January 14, 1880 and is buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Osage County, Kansas. Sarah had four children with William McCleary, Jr. including a son named Henry McCleary born in about 1840 and who was living in Cass County, Michigan in 1860 according to the 1860 Federal Census and Sarah had approximately six children with Samuel Thompson including Ira (my great grandfather) born September 18, 1844. Samuel Thompson had several children from a previous marriage. In my research of the Colyar family I find numerous Colyars in both Kosciusko County, Indiana and Cass County, Michigan in the 1800's. Johnathan, Ichabod, Benajiman, Rhoda and Celia and others. There were several marriages between the Colyar and McCleary families. I do not have documentation that ties these Colyars together as either siblings of Sarah's or possible first cousins. If you know of anyone else researching the Colyar family, please pass my email on to them as I would appreciate some assistance in determining Sarah's siblings and parents.
