After years of wondering whatever happened to three of the five surviving children of Joseph Hall Jackson and Alida "Olive" Weatherwax, I have finally located two of the missing in Cass Co.!
The first is Andrew W. Jackson, born 10 November, 1828 at West Glenville, Schenectady Co., NY. He married Susan EVERHART and they had five known children: Margaret (1849-1862, buried in Poe Cemetery), Betsey (born circa 1850), Matilda (born circa 1860), Louella/Luella (1868-1949, married 1. William Rosencranz CLENDENIN, one daughter, 2. Sylvester N. NICHOLS, no issue) and William Jackson (born circa 1872). Andrew and Susan are both buried in Poe Cemetery. According to her headstone, Susan was born 24 April, 1825 and died 3 May, 1888. Unfortunately, Andrew, a Civil War veteran (Co. A, 14th Michigan Volunteer Infantry) has a government headstone with no dates. He had to have died at some point between 1894 (enumerated in the 1894 Special Veterans Census) and 1900 (not found in the 1900 Michigan Census). I would appreciate it if someone could look up his death date for me. If anyone has a clue, I would also like to know what happened to his children and especially to his granddaughter, Wilma Clendenin, born in 1894! I would also like to know where the rest of them are buried!
My other recent find is Phoebe Anna "Anna" Jackson, born 31 August, 1849 in New York. She married George L. BEIDLER 13 September, 1866 at Corey, Newberg Twp., Cass Co., MI. Their children were Joseph E. (1867-?), Raucha (1869-1887, her birth record reads Raucha but her death record reads Rosina A.), Olive J. (1872-?, married Jessie M. RIFENBERG, one son), Ella (1875-1898, married Albert H. LEDBETTER, one son), George L. Jr. (1877-?, married Rhoda A. ARNOLD, one daughter) and an infant daughter unnamed, born in the spring of 1880, enumerated on the 1880 Census for Newberg Twp. Phoebe Jackson Beidler reportedly died 13 August, 1880 but I need confirmation of this. I would also like to know where the members of this family are buried. (Nothing seems to be coming up on the Cass Co. GenWebsite.) The records to which I have access online are limited in scope so it is possible that there may be more grandchildren than the few I have listed here. Phoebe Anna Jackson Beidler always used "Anna" or sometimes "Annie", which has contributed to considerable confusion (and delay) in getting her branch of the family tracked.
Siblings to Andrew and Phoebe Anna who lived in Cass Co. were Catherine Eliza Jackson (1831-1880, second wife of John Reuben PERKINS, one daughter) and Sarah Ann Jackson (1845-1915, second wife of Paris Sylvester LEMUNYON, six children). I have collected a great deal of data (including some excellent photoscans) for these children that I am willing to share with descendants. Olive Weatherwax Jackson was the next eldest surviving sibling to my great great grandfather, Henry VanDerCook Weatherwax (1812-1867), of St. Joseph Co.
