Celebrate Golden Wedding

Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Walker, one of Dowagiac's best known and respected coupled celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary New Years' day at their home on Riverside Drive.
   Mr. and Mrs. Walker held open house for their friends and their two sons and families of Detroit were present also as was Miss Anita Walker who makes her home with her parents. Those here were Dr. and Mrs. Paul Walker and Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Walker and the Walker grandchildren, John, Paul, Sally K. and Robert, children of Dr. Paul Walker and Maurice, Elaine, Alan and Richard, the children of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Walker.
   Mr. and Mrs. Walker came to Dowagiac 35 years ago making this city their home ever since, Mr. Walker being superintendent of Riverside cemetery for the past 34 years. Both Mr. And Mrs. Walker have been extremely active in church circles, Mrs. Walker also acting as chaplain of the Captain Samuel Felt chapter of the D. A. R. and their number their friends by the hundreds.

   Mr. and Mrs. Walker were married January 1, 1885 by the Rev. Samuel Reeves, pastor of the Methodist Protestant church of Wakelee, at the home of Mrs. Walker's parents, Mr. And Mrs. A. H. Williams of that village. They both have been almost lifelong residents of Michigan since childhood. Mr. Walker was born near Warren, Ohio and Mrs. Walker at Burchardsville, Pennsylvania, both coming to Michigan with their families in 1866. end..

Newton J. Walker and Lella K. (nee Williams) were married in Wakelee, Cass County Michigan on January 1, 1885 at the home of my grandmother’s parents , Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Williams of Wakelee. My Grandfather was born in or near Braceville , Ohio and my grandmother was born at Burchardsville , PA. They both came to Michigan as children.  A. H. Williams was a school teacher in Cass County and My great – grandfather Jesse P. Walker was a farmer in Newburg Township. My grandparents later moved to Dowagiac. My grandfather was superintendent of Riverside cemetery in Dowagiac and at one time Superintendent of Roads in Cass County .
