Adamsville Cemetery is located in Section 12 of Adamsville Road and May Street, 1 & 12/2 miles south of US 12 in Ontwa Township. The following listing and pages were stone readings and research compiled by: Amelia Castle and Nancy Corwin in 1997. The compiler's work includes the old walk records done by the DAR in the 1940's and Amelia and Nancy's walking and reading the cemetery. The sexton at that time decided not participate in aiding the information for unmarked graves. Therefore, if anyone has information on any graves not shown in our listings and want them to appear in this index, please send the information along with source to us.
Please keep in mind that the sites on Cass County were constructed by volunteers and are being maintained by volunteers. If you have additional information on the burials in any of the Cass County Cemeteries, please contact me at cassmichigangen@yahoo.com

Manuel family researcher, John Manuel (see our Hall of Fame page for his
email address), offers the following information on the Manuel family.
The MANUEL Family Monument only recongizes all of the MANUEL's in the
Wilder & Harriet MANUEL family group, it was not intended to indicate that
they were buried in Adamsville Cemetery. Individual headstones or individual
grave markers were used for that. Unless a grave marker(s) is/are missing. And
that may be possible for one of the MANUEL's on the Monument:
Martha MANUEL 1835 - 1886: Explanation: She marries Abraham
CRAWFORD, you will find them on your 1870 census aa a famiy in Ontwa Township.
They move with their child to Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI. Martha dies of
'Consumption' (see "Transient Death Index for Grand Rapids, She dies on 19
April 1886, and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Grand Rapids Cemetery, along
with her husband Abraham, daughter Carrie Bell and son Francis MANUEL CRAWFORD.
Francis Death Certificate states his parent's as Abraham CRAWFORD and Martha
MANUEL, His middle name is MANUEL. It took me and several other genealogists a
few years to track all of this down and get documents to confirm the research.
William MANUEL 1825 - Blank: Explanation: I don't know where he is at. I've been searching since 1997, going to Michigan, Vermont and Province of Quebec, Canada. I have not found him. I did find a William MANUEL in MO in the 1880 census, born in VT and both parents born in VT. And his age of 43, indicated that he was born in 1827 (based on the census entry). In the 1860 census he was born in KY. I am trying to find out where he died, but have not found out when or when.
Roswell MANUEL 1828 - Blank: Explanation: He is my Great Grandfather Roswell Charles MANUEL, he died in Wakefield, Clay Co., KS., and is buried in the MANUEL Family Plot in Highland Cemetery. He died 9 March 1902 in Wakefield, KS. When his parent's, Wilder & Harriet MANUEL left Potton Township, Bedford Co./ Brome Co., Province of Quebec, Canada, England in the mid 1850's, after the death of Susan CORSER MANUEL, 28 June 1853, Roswell Charles MANUEL, his family, and his brother settled in Oconto Township, Oconto Co., WI., and Wilder & Harriet and the rest of the family settled in Ontwa Township, Cass Co., You will notice that the following children are not on the 1860 census for MI, Roswell and Henry (they are on the 1860 census for WI); William, I don't know where he's at. Samuel is decease, so he may have made it to Ontwa Township before his death, and he may very well be buried in Adamsville Cemetery. Anyway, just prior to Wilder MANUEL, Sr.'s death in 1869, Roswell, sales all of his property in Oconto Co., WI., and moves his family to Adamsville, where he buys a Hotel and operates it for a few years. Finally selling it (I guess), and moves him and his family to Milforld Township, Geary Co., KS in 1870. Low and behold Louise (MANUEL) SMACK is in the next household.
Louise MANUEL 1841 - Blank: Explanation: She marries John SMACK on 15 March 1862 in Whiteside Co., IL. John SMACK is one of three children of Edgar SMACK (dies, when and where, I'm still looking), and Malinda (HALSTEAD) SMACK. Ranson N. THOMPSON, first wife dies in 1850 in Canada / Orleans Co., VT. Their child Royal is born in 1850 and dies in Cass Co., and is buried in Five Points Cemetery. By the 1860 census, Ranson, has remarried to, Malinda (HALSTEAD) SMACK, and the family is living very close to Wilder and Harriet MANUEL. John SMACK and Louise MANUEL, strike up a relationship, and shoott off to Whiteside Co., and get married in 1862. They don't appear to ever come back and live in Ontwa Townhip, but they probably visited. Anyway, Louise (MANUEL) SMACK dies in Holt's Summit, Callaway Co., MO., on 19 April 1912, and is buried in Union Hill Cemetery along with her husband, John SMACK. I solved this one, with lots of help last year. It took ten years, just like with Martha (MANUEL) CRAWFORD.
