Documentation: 1. Carol Ann Smith Lefleur, lafleur@geocities.com, RootsWeb.com/World Connect Project: Carol Ann Smith Lafleur, 21 Sep. 2003, 5 Jun 2006. "Eugenie Marie West: She married Pierre dit Billy Courville 8 Nov 1802 in Ppelouses, son of Alexis Courville and Elizabeth Louise Locat. He was born abt. 1762 in Cahokia,Illinois, and died abt. 1845 in LA." 2. Same source: "When Pierre Billy dit Courville died at his home on the Prairie Faquetaique about 1845,he had personally participated in several very important phases of American History. At over 80 years of age, he had lived through the establishment of the French frontier in the Illinois and St.Louis areas, the turmoil of the transition of the Northwest Territory from French to Spanish ownership, the conflict over land ownership as the Americans flowed from Spain to France to American governance in the new state of Louisiana. He established a large family that counts itself in the thousands today and for many years was a genealogical puzzle. The almost accidental discovery of his family home identified on a 1766 British map of Cahokia (leJornal, vol. 2,no. 1) was the key to his father's identity ,coupled with information discovered in the massive Repretoire by Charbonneau and LeGare, solved the puzzle. Apparently all of Pierre's descendants are royalty through Charlemagne (baptism sources Notre Dame de la Visitation de Champlain,August 1,1748, Alexis Courville, brother of Francois Courville. Jette Treatise on Genealogy,Chapter 13.) Such was the case with Pierre Courville. The initial work of solving his parentage was done by Callie Avera, who discovered that Pierre's mother was Elizabeth Locat (Marie Josette Chavalier Locat dit Renaud) married Marc Ferretti,an Italian. Alexis and Elizabeth were married November 24,1760 at Cahokia (La Publication  des Forts Francais, Fairbault-Beauregard,Vol.1,pg. 197).
