Dear Dr. Post,
College Archives was able to tell me that your grandfather did indeed graduate from Kalamazoo College, but with the Class of 1898, not 1899. He played football and was VP of his Junior class. They also had a
copy of an essay he wrote entitled "The Foundation of Political Purity" which won second prize in an essay contest. If you would like a copy of this, I would be happy to send it to you. Unfortunately, we do not
have a copy of his transcripts.
I hope this is what you were looking for. Let me know if I can help you with anything else.
Regards,
Janelle Boothby
---
He attended the University of Chicago for pre-med (2 years?). He was on the football team for 1 year, but contracted polio.
---
He graduated from Rush Medical College abt. 1910. He later would become Dean of that school while it was in financial difficulty. Both the Universities of Chicago and Illinois were in a battle to take over the
school, and the University of Chicago won out.
---
His first practice was with Dr. Frank Billings, a world renouned physician, and he was on the staff at St. Luke's Hospital. When Billings Hospital was funded, "Papa" was heavily involved in the minutia of the
physical design. Architects and engineers would often breakfast with the family while discussing elevator size and placement, stairway locations, etc.
---
He was on the Board of Trustees at the University of Chicago. When John D. Rockafeller announced to Papa that there was a seat available on the Board, and that he was being considered, Rockafeller made it clear
that the Board was made up of those of the Baptist faith. Papa and Nana joined the Baptist church shortly thereafter. Had they not, this paragraph would probably not be here.
---
In 1917, he was commissioned by the American Red Cross to visit Russia, which was in rebellion at the time, to report on conditions there. In order to get there, he had to start in India and travel through
Prussia. He also had to be commissioned into the US Army (as a Major?). During this trip, he had dinner with the Shah and with Lawrence of Arabia.
---
He went again in 1918, this time privately sponsored by Harold Swift (Swift Meats). While he was away, Mr. Swift's driver would visit their home daily to assure all was okay, and would often bring gifts to his
son.

was born September 6, 1846, at Westbrook, Connecticut. His parents were of English descent; his father a native of Connecticut and his mother of Rhode Island. His education privileges were those of the common
schools and Lowell High School. The family came to Lowell in October 1858, and settled upon the farm where the subject of this sketch still resides. His life occupation is that of a farmer, and he owns 230
acres of land on sections 14 and 23 in that township, in a good state of improvement, with substantial homestead buildings. It is known as Spring Hill Farm. He is an enthusiastic agriculturist and fruit raiser;
has for many years given especial attention to the raising of potatoes and much success, his crop of that esculent amounting to some thousands of bushels annually. He has a wide acquaintance with prominent
agriculturists in the States; is well informed upon all that pertains to their profession and one who aims to keep abreast with the age in scientific farm culture. Mr. Post married, at Lowell, September 9,

Post, as between the main parties, is a staunch Republican, and on the liquor prohibition question inclines in sentiment to prohibition. He is a stirring, energetic, public-spirited citizen, whose nature it is
to be busily employed. He was one of the census enumerators of 1890, and is a member of the Board of Review of his township." Leander J. Post biography.
