Family
Bible, Birth Certificate, Death Certificate, Funeral Book, Tombstones After his 1st wife Esther died, he married Mary McConnel, the census records indicate she was born in Canada. I was led to believe that the daughters he had with Mary were all born in Ohio, this is not true, my grandmother Rachel was born in Ohio, but Violet, Florence/Mary(May as she was called), and Nellie/Helen, were in fact born in Binghamton, Broome County, NY. Peter left Michigan and went to NY probably late 1883, my thinking is that perhaps Rachel was born on the way in Ohio. I have directories for Binghamton that this family lived in Binghamton from then until about 1898. An 1892 census for Binghamton lists Peter, Mary, sons James, George, William, Perley, daughters Adelbert, Eliza, Rachel, Violet, Mary(Florence May) Nellie. by 1900 the whereabouts(at this time) of Mary, Nellie Violet, and May are unknown. Mary may have died in Binghamton. James went to Scranton, PA., and the rest returned to Michigan. I have the census records for the years 1900 through 1930. By 1910 Peter V was back in Michigan. 1920 census he is living with his son Perley and family in Detroit, he died before 1930, his date of death and burial are still unknown. Peter was in the Civil War, and was living in Delhi, Delaware County, NY and is listed as one of the first volunteers from Delhi to join up. His group was sent to Long Island. He was discharged near Washington DC with the rest of his unit. 72nd NY Inf Vol. He was collecting a pension from the Civil War in 1890 in Binghamton, NY. He applied for his pension Jun 19, 1875. So he must have been in MI when he started to get his pension. Served 3yrs 1 mo 2 days. Wounded in leg by explosion. Florence May married Jay Warrick, and they had 9 children. Violet married Matthew Leary and had 7 children, Eliza married George Elmer Streeter 26 Aug 1897 They had 7 children, she died 21 Dec 1964 , Elmer died 25 Sep 1952 both in Port Huron, MI. Perley married Ida Signor, they had 2 daughters, Perley died 29 May 1950 and Ida died 28 Sep 1958 both in Detroit. William married Florence? they had 2 daughters, James married Nellie Tyrell they had 2 sons and 3 daughters, James later moved to MI and lived with son Edward and family. George married Dora?, they had 2 daughters, Dora died 1905 and in 1906 he married Pearl May Scott. My grandmother Rachel married George Pembleton, they had 8 children 3 of their children died young. The oldest Mildred was born in Canada, and may have died there, she was 3 months old when she died. Rachel and George moved to Broome County, NY by 1914, This is from the many postcards I have from different relatives to Rachel through the years, a treasure I cherish. Nellie was known as Helen, she married Fred Travis and had 2 daughters. |
