Welcome to Ionia County

Welcome to this website which is a part of MIGenWeb and USGenWeb®, a network of websites that provide free online genealogical information. We would like to extend a very special thank you to the Ionia County Genealogical Society for their continued endeavors in regularly adding information to this site.  A very special thank you to Pam Swiller, founder of the ICGS, and Lori Fox, the current President.

While Native Americans had occupied this area for many years and used the Grand River as a trade route, the first European settlers were the Samuel Dexter Party. They traveled from New York to Ionia County arriving on May 28, 1833, at the location of what would be the city of Ionia.
