MAGEE
I am attempting to research the Magee family of Ionia for an aunt of 98.
She had done considerable work on the family but due to age can not continue.
I am looking for the family of James Magee married to Louisa O Dodge and descendants.
The children were Clarence (Lizzie, Lydia, Ida?) , William, Henry (Alice), Lena (Clook), Lydia (Munson), Rosa (Temple), Nettie (James) and Lotty
I would be interested in hearing from anyone with an interest in any of these families.

MALONE
I am seeking information
pertaining to the arrival of Martin Malone in
Ionia
County, probably in
the late 1860’s to early 1870’s. He married Harriet (Hattie) Wedge,
daughter of Moses Wedge, in Montcalm Co. in 1873. They lived in
Ionia the rest of their lives, along with
son John George Malone, who was a postal clerk. John Malone married Mary
Sherman, daughter of James Marshall Sherman and Sophia Cook.
My wife is a direct descendent
of the Malone and Sherman line.
Pat Currigan of Ionia has been
extremely helpful in digging up records concerning the
Sherman family for us, and I
have asked her to check some other sources for me.
My specific need at this point
is to determine if Martin Malone arrived in Ionia or near there by way of
the Orphan Trains that operated out of
New York City. I believe we
have located him in the New York Juvenile Asylum in 1860 at about 11/12
years of age. I have learned that this institution sent children out to
be indentured or adopted. I have searched but been unable to find a
source of records as to the children on the trains.
If you have information or
contacts or advice to pass along it would be greatly appreciated.

COOK, SHERMAN, MALONE
I am seeking information on the
Cook, Sherman, and Malone’s of
Ionia
County mid to late
1800’s.
James M. Sherman married Sophia L.
Cook in
Marshall
Township. Their children
where Albert E. and Mary Sherman. I would like to find the parents names for
James and Sophia.
John G. Malone. I have the names
of Burt, Martin, Maurice and Maynard. I would like to find the parents of
John G. I have found that the Malones are buried in Highland Park Cemetery,
as well as the Sherman’s.
Any help or guidance is
appreciated. I have found many records and article to trace from present day
back to the mid 1850’ , but have not been able to go further. My wife is a
Malone. Her father James Martin was born in
Detroit, the son of Martin Malone
and Mary Sherman. My mother-in-law traveled to
Detroit and met Mary as well as
Sophia Sherman. Mrs. Sherman referred to “The General” often, and I think she
may have been speaking of John Sherman from
Ionia. Help here would be wonderful.

SAMAIN, OLMSTEAD, BARRETT My enquiry concerns the names
of three particular people which appear in the Cemetery Index for Ionia
County.
A major branch of my family tree relates to the Samain family (originally
Huguenots). One line settled in Michigan in 1835. My enquiry relates to
the wives of two brothers Elias and Daniel.
First, Elias married Julia Olmstead and a variety of circumstances (dates,
names & locations) suggest she was the daughter of Mont Vernon Olmstead of
Orange Township - town supervisor and part benefactor of the
Keefer-Olmstead Cemetery. Elias & Julia had a son Vernon born in Ionia
County 2nd September 1872. At Keefer-Olmstead there is another son, Robert
(bn 1882), who was adopted by Henry and Sarah Perret, and a daughter Edna
who married Frank Dorin. I am a little uncertain about Julia because, in
the Index, both she and Vernon are named Olmstead and not Samain. I
wondered whether it was because she was interred as the daughter of Mont
Vernon Olmstead and Vernon as the grandson of etc.
The second question is very similar to the first: Daniel married Minerva
Barrett, daughter of Ebenezer & Rebecca. At Portland Cemetery there is,
interred with Ebenezer & Rebecca, a Mervia Barrett. I wondered whether a)
this could be Minerva (she did die about that time) and b) if it is she,
how her name is Barrett and not Samain.
May I say (without flattery) what a wonderful resource I have found your
website to be. I have discovered so much from different sections - and not
just data relating to the family. Life in 19th century Michigan has come
alive for me.
I do hope you can help me clarify my confusions here.
With many thanks and best wishes,
David Seddon (Norwich, England)

BECKERI am trying to fill in a gap in the life story of my
great-grandfather, Mathias Becker (sometimes Baker). Sometime between 1863
and 1870 he and his wife ran some kind of eating place or saloon in Ionia.
Before this he lived in Grand Rapids and after this he moved to Saginaw.
He is in Saginaw by the 1870 census. Do you have any idea where I might
look for information on this? I live in SE IN and do not have relatives in
your area.
Thanks for any help you might give,
Gloria Becker Rueber

KANOUSE
I am looking for information about Isabell Kanouse born
about 1846 in Michigan, possibly Ionia County.
She was married to my great great-grandfather Albert Ehle Jackson
(1844-1920). They had four sons: Ray, Chester, Harvey, Lee.
I found her on the 1880 Federal Census in Ionia with her husband Albert, and
their son Ray. Albert and Ray are buried at Highland Park, but I cannot find
info about Isabell or her family.

PIXLEY
I am looking for any information
on my ggg-grandmother Mary Jane Pixley born in NY
Pixley was her first husband's
name.
Don't know her maiden name or his
first name.
However, she had to have married
in NY State, because her daugher Vienna Almeda Jane Pixley was born
there in 1833.
So, she must have married shortly
before that.
Then, either they or she and her
daughter moved to Michigan.
She was widowed at some point.
She is found married sometime
before 1880 to a Mr. Cole in Redford Township, Wayne County.
He was a farmer, it seems, but
don't know what happened to him, but she was widowed again before 1880.
Then, she married a Daniel W. Rose
in 1880 in Redford Township, Wayne County.
One year later, she died and was
buried in Redford Cemetery, but I have no proof of that.
Could you see if you could find
her in any of the Censuses for marriage, husband's death, children, her
death, please?
Vancouver, Canada.
