SHACKHUDDLE CEMETERY
GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP,
OTTAWA COUNTY, MICHIGAN

Transcribed by Evelyn Sawyer

This cemetery was located on the top of a hill in the northwest corner of Benjamin Edson’s land.  Section 34 the SE1/4.

It was in a difficult place to get to. Benjamin was the son of Abijah and Cintha, who are buried in this cemetery. When the cemetery was abandoned, they supposedly moved all of the burials to the Georgetown Township Cemetery (Some Edson graves were moved). However, for many years there were stones laying on the ground. Only one has been continually kept up even until the present and that is the stone and grave of Edwin Peasley. In 200 we tried to check for other stones. It is difficult to tell because of the myrtle and brush growing but there is still one large stone that needs to be turned over for information. It would take a couple of strong people to do this. A member of the Tibbetts family informed me that some members of the family were buried there (See Family Tradition). She also mentioned Andrew Tibbetts being buried there but he is listed in Georgetown Township Cemetery.
