Calvin Bandstra –

I checked a couple of things for you.

1930 Federal Census for Zeeland City and Zeeland Township

Zeeland City, 120 Harrison Street

Kloosterman, James, head, 69 yrs., married when 28 yrs., born-Netherlands

Immig-1891, Naturalized

Adrianna, wife, 67 yrs., married when 26 yrs., born-Netherlands

Immig-1891, Naturalized

(Jacobus is Latin and James is an English translation of it. Usually it translates to

Jacob but it looks as though in this case, he became James.)

Zeeland Township

If you go to the Ottawa County RootsWeb site, under the category Land, you will find a listing from the 1876, 1897, 1912 and 1930 atlases, listings of land owners. There are mentions of Kloosterman’s in some of those years.

The 1920 census would show you who lived in Ottawa County. It would mention the country where the person was born and the country where the parents were born. It does not give the names of the parents. About the only way you would get that would be from

a death record.

If you go to the following URL, you can look for obituaries which might help in locating

The year of death. The Western Michigan Genealogical Society (WMGS) has indexed the obituaries from the Grand Rapids Press and the Grand Rapids Herald from 1910 to the present. You can check for names in that index at:

www.wmgs.org Click on DATABASES and scroll down to Obituaries.

Also, the Zeeland Cemetery records have been done in recent years by the Holland Genealogical Society. But I would think that you could contact (or the other person could contact) the Zeeland City and find out if Johannes was buried there.

You will find that information under the Ottawa Co. RootsWeb site, click on Township Records and then on Location of Township Offices. I do not have any email addresses

For the Ottawa Co. Township offices. There may be one for Zeeland.

I hope this helps you with some ideas of where to look for information.
