Albert Bolt

Albert E. Bolt was born in the county of Devon, England, January 7, 1844 and came with his parents and ten brothers and sisters to America in March 1857. From New York the family went to London, Ontario, and remained there about a year, and then came to Michigan and located upon a tract of farm one mile west of Lisbon, Chester Township, Ottawa County. Albert with an older brother cleared and improved the land with the aid and under the direction of their parents.

In 1861 he enlisted in the 4th Michigan Cavalry, Co. H, under the leadership of Col. Minty, who later became the Col. Minty of the famous Minty Saber Brigade, of which the 4th was an important factor, being instrumental in the capture of Jeff Davis, president of the Southern Confederacy.

He answered the last bugle call on November 16, 1927 at his home here.

On January 1, 1871 he was married to Alice E. Blanchard and for close to 57 years this couple traveled life’s pathway together. He leaves to mourn their loss, not only the wife, but one son, Edward, of Grand Rapids, his old comrades and many friends.

The funeral was held from the M. E. Church Friday afternoon. The G. A. R. veterans, D. of V. and A. F. and A. M. attended in a body.
