Oldest Hudsonville resident dies

Henrietta Cory had been asking whether her birthday had arrived yet. "In the last few years, we’ve had so many open houses," said her daughter, Mamie Jean

Mrs. Cory would have been 103 on May 28. She died in the early morning hours last Friday, April 6.

One of Hudsonville’s oldest citizens, Mrs. Cory lived in the city all of her adult life.

She was the oldest of five children born to Herman and Jessie Telgenhof. She was married to Roy Cory, and at age 22 was widowed when he was killed in a car/train accident. Mrs. Cory never remarried.

Mrs. Cory spent the last three years of her life at Cambridge Manor in Jenison.

She is survived by her two daughters, Mamie Jean Eden and Carol Groters, four grandchildren, and fiver great-grandchildren.

After her husband’s death, Mrs. Cory supported herself and her children by working as a beautician in Hudsonville’s first beauty shop, then worked at the Hudsonville post office, from which she retired in 1966.

Mrs. Cory enjoyed traveling, attending Tiger and Cubs baseball games and other professional sports events, and later, Whitecaps games.

She was active in the Hudsonville Congregational U. C. C. and Zeeland Hospital Guild.
