Otto J. Doesburg

Word has been received here of the death of a former publisher and editor of the "Holland City News". Otto J. Doesburg was the publisher of this paper from 1877 to 1881. His death occurred at Chicago where he has been making his home for several years. Mr. Doesburg came to Holland with his parents in 1848 and was a member of the firm of Doesburg and Sons which published "De Hollander" and "The Ottawa County Register." At the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted in Co. D, Eighth Michigan Infantry. He was a brother of the late J. O. Doesburg of this city and a nephew of the late Prof. C. Doesburg of Hope College. The deceased was 65 of age and is survived by one brother, Gerrit Doesburg, of this city, one son, White Doesburg, and three daughters, Mrs. William Allen, Mrs. Arthur Hayes and Miss Cora Doesburg, all of Chicago. The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock from J. S. Dykstra’s undertaking rooms.

(Mr. Doesburg is buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.)
