Grand Rapids Newspaper, May 27, 1917 Eeltza Elgersma Coopersville, May 28--- Eeltza Elgersma, eighty, a Civil War veteran who was a member of Company A, First Michigan Engineers and Mechanics, died at his home here Sunday. He came to America when sixteen years old and enroute to Holland, the boat was wrecked and he was in the water for several hours before he was rescued. Surviving are the widow, a son, a half brother and three daughters. Funeral services will be held at the residence Tuesday afternoon with intermet in Coopersville Cemetery.
