Nunica Civil War Veteran Dies This Week Tuesday

Funeral Services for Albert A. Harvey to be Held Today in Nunica

Albert A. Harvey, aged eighty-five, and a veteran of the Civil War, died Tuesday, August 10, 1926, at his home in Nunica.

He was born June 29, 1841, in Buffalo, New York, and was married to Martha M. Thurber at Tonawanda, New York, August 7, 1862.

August 5, 1862, he enlisted in Company B of the 116th New York Regiment and served until March 14, 1863, being honorably discharged on account of disability.

In October 1872, he moved to Michigan, where he located to Polkton Township, Ottawa County, and carved his home out of the primeval forest. He moved to Nunica September 1st, 1906, where he remained until the time of his death.

He was a man beloved by all who knew him, and was respected as an ardent Christian gentleman. During his long illness of four years he was never known to complain of his condition, but was always considerate of those around him, and bore his infirmities like a true soldier. His faith in God sustained him all the way.

A loving husband and father has departed, but the memory of his life will always be cherished. Besides the widow, he leaves one daughter, Mrs. Eugene Gibbs of Nunica; a son, Frank A. Harvey of Grand Rapids; also grandchildren, Mrs. W. A. Bowen, Jr., of New York, Mr. Donald H. Abbott of Miama, Florida, Mrs. Evelyn Harvey, Bernice Harvey, Ruth Harvey and Emily Jane Harvey; and two great-grandchildren, Wm. Harvey Bowen, five months and Jane Abbott, twenty months.

Funeral services will be held today (Friday) at 2:30 from the residence in Nunica. Burial will be in Spring Lake.
