Thomas J. Heald

Thomas Jefferson Heald was born June 7, 1840, in Somerset, Pennsylvania, son of John William Heald and Adeline Bly, according to the American Genealogical-Biographical Index. He married Catherine Green on October 6, 1863, in Kendall County, Illinois, according to Kendall County, Illinois, marriage records. Catherine was the daughter of Hiram Green and Hannah De Jong.

Military Records

Thomas Jefferson Heald was a Civil War veteran. He enlisted in Co. C, 4th Illinois Cavalry on September 6, 1861, and was discharged November 3, 1864. Thomas Heald died May 15, 1889, in Ottawa County, Michigan, of lung disease. Thomas Heald saw several doctors as his disease progressed. On March 13, 1881, in Indiana, Dr. Cappock treated him for cough and expectoration, soreness of the chest, impaired appetite, night sweats and general debility. In Michigan, Dr. William Fuller stated that he treated Thomas Heald from March 22, 1889, to May 15, 1889. At that time Thomas was confined to his bed and was suffering from bronchitis and expectoration of blood from his lungs, which were pronounced symptoms from which he died. Catherine received a pension for their two minor children, Hiram and Thomas, after Thomas Head died.

Sidney Heald, MI death certificate-Sidney Heald, born in Indiana, son of Thomas Heald and Catherine Green, died November 3, 1899, age about 31, at UBA Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI, of peritonitis with contributing heart failure, and was buried in Lamont Cemetery. Sidney was married three years with two children.

Kent County marriage records-- Catherine, widow of Thomas Heald, married John Parmenter on February 4, 1892, in Kent County.

Thomas B. Heald, aged 74, of 2007 Kenning Dr. NW, passed away Wednesday morning at Pine Rest Sanitarium after a lingering illness. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Heald; 4 sons, Sherman of Willoughby, Ohio, Laverne, Douglas, and Roy, all of Grand Rapids; 2 daughters, Mrs. Alfred Sirrine of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Lee Snyder of Caledonia; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Mr. Heald reposes at the Alt Mortuary where funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment Rosedale Memorial Park. Mortuary visiting hours on Thursday will be from 7 to 9 p. m.
