Charles Hovey

Charles Hovey was born December 28, 1933, in Root, Montgomery County, New York, and passed away from this life at the home of his son, in Marshall, Michigan, age 76

years, 11 months and 9 days. In 1866 he came to Michigan, settling on a farm in Jamestown where he lived until 1877? when he came to Grand Rapids. After the years of residence there, he came to Coopersville where he has since resided.

He served in the Rebellion in Battery E, New York Light Artillery and was a member of the local post of the G. A. R. He is survived by two sons and two daughter and three brothers.

He was naturally quiet and preferred the simple home life, and by his integrity of character and upright life he won for himself the respect of all who knew him.

The funeral was held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. W. Nye of this place, Sunday, Dec. 14. He was laid to rest in the Coopersville Cemetery by the side of his wife who preceded him to the spirit world in 1908 after over fifty years of wedded life. The service was conducted by Dr. Edson A. Titus, of Grand Rapids.
