Rascelas S. McClain

Rascelas S. McClain was born in the town of Lincoln, Ohio, June 22nd, 1832.

He was married to Sarah Ivish on September 11, 1851. To them were born three sons; two of them are still living. His first wife died Feb. 23, 1857 and Dec. 18, 1859, he was married to Alma E. Lawton, who survives him.

He enlisted in Co. C, 1st U. S. Sharpshooters, August 21, 1861, at Detroit, mustered in Aug. 26, 1861, promoted to corporal, wounded in action at Chancellorsville, Va., May 3rd, 1863, was discharged at Fairfax, Va., Feb. 21, 1864 on account of gun shot wound on the right arm, received in action at Locust Grove, Va., Nov. 27, 1863.

He was converted in 1869 and in 1870 joined the Free Methodist Church and lived a faithful and consistent Christian life until the end, which came after four weeks illness, June 9th, 1909, at his residence in Coopersville, Mich. The funeral was held at the F. M. Church on June 13, Rev. S. W. Ingalls officiating.
