Martin Miner

Martin Miner was a veteran of the Civil War. He enlisted in the 94th Regiment, Illinois Infantry, Co. K, on August 8, 1862, at Bloomington, Illinois, and was discharged July 17, 1865, at Galveston, Texas, at the close of the war.

The 1880 U. S. Federal Census of Paris, Kent, Michigan lists:
Martin Miner, age 45, born in New York, a farmer.
Margaret Miner, age 40, born in Iowa.
Marietta Miner, daughter, age 19, born in Illinois.

Martin Miner entered the Veterans’ Home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on May 14, 1902.

The Surgeon’s Certificate states, "He has rheumatism to such a degree that he cannot walk without the aid of crutches. He is totally disabled at the present time."

Martin Miner is described as age 67, light complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, height- 5 ft. 8 in.

Records from the Veterans’ Home state that Martin Miner died on June 1, 1902, in Grand Rapids, while on a pass, and was buried there.

Martin Miner was buried in Allendale Township Cemetery on June 2, 1902, in lot # 239.

Margaret A. Miner applied for a widow’s pension on June 11, 1902.
