Andrew Schumaker

The ranks of the veterans of A. C. Van Raalte Post, G. A. R. have suffered depletion by the final mustering out of one of their number. Andrew Schumaker, who resided in Olive, near the Grand Haven line, died on Monday last. He had served in Company I, 24th Illinois Infantry and was a native of Bavaria. He came to this country in ’48, settled in Olive in ’69, was 78 years old and a single man.

In December last, he received an injury by his horse crowding him against the manger. The immediate cause of his death, however, was inflammation of the lungs. The Post had his remains brought to Holland and he was buried under its auspices on Thursday afternoon from the M. E. Church, Rev. Adam Clarke conducting the services.

(Buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.)
