Dorothea A. Shaver, a life long resident of Grand Haven

SHAVER - Dorothea A. Shaver, age  87, of Grand Haven, passed away Friday, October 2, 2009 at Harbor Hospice Poppen  House. Dorothea was born May 12, 1922 in Grand Haven to Arthur F. and Mildred M.  (Pittman) Green. Her parents preceded her in death as did her husband, James H.  Shaver, and her brother, Raymond J. Green of Livonia, MI. Dorothea attended  Grand Haven public schools, graduating in 1940. Following high school she worked  at Addison Baltz Department Store as a bookkeeper. Jim and Dorothea were married  December 27, 1941. Together Dorothea and Jim built their home on South Ferry  Street and lived at that residence for over 50 years. Dorothea was a member of  the United Methodist Church of the Dunes where she was active in Circle, the  Bazaar, and making of "cozy bags". One of her lifelong interests was Girl  Scouting and she enjoyed continued contact with some of her former Brownies  & Scouts. She also enjoyed sewing, bowling, gardening, and camping with the  Happy Wanderers Club of TTCM.
Dorothea will be lovingly missed by her three  daughters, Judy (Ron) Schuitema of Fruitport, Ellen (Ted) Lietzke of Lowell, and  Kathy (Bradley) Fisher of Springfield, MO. She is also survived by five  grandchildren, Kim Magsig (Toby Pallett), Stacie (Thadd) Bowden, Anna (Howard)  Hargrave, Nathan (Logan) Lietzke, and Emma Fisher; eight great-grandchildren; a  sister, Loretta (Jack) Hoebeke; sisters-in-law, Pat Green and Shirley Shaver;  and several nieces and nephews. The service for Dorothea will
be held Friday,  October 16, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of the Dunes with  Rev. Daniel Duncan officiating. Interment will be in the Remembrance Garden at  the church. Memorials to the United Methodist Church of the Dunes or Harbor  Hospice are appreciated. The family would like to extend special  thanks to Shirl Shaver, Ida Vandeweg, and the staff members at the Poppen House,  Christian Haven Home, and Seville.
Dorothea's family is being served by  VanZantwick, Bartels, Kammeraad of Grand  Haven.
