Smead Elijah

Zeeland, Dec. 26---Lige Smead, one of the early settlers of Allendale, is dead from heart disease. Mr. Smead was severely wounded in the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863, but after a short visit home he again returned to his regiment and served to the close of the war. The deceased is survived by a daughter and two sons.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at the home at 1:30 P. M.

Civil War records.—Enlisted in New York 60th Infantry, Co. D? on March 3, 1862 for 3 years.  He is listed as being sick in Nashville, Tennessee from May 2, 1864 to June 30, 1865. No discharge was given.

Elijah Smead was buried in lot 344, grave # 4 on December 26, 1912.
Julia Smead was buried in lot 344, grave # 3 on August 9, 1928.
Charles W. Smead was buried in lot 344, grave #2 on February 14, 1930.
