Levi Stamp

Levi D. Stamp was born in Steuben County, New York, July 16, 1843, and departed this life in Coopersville, May 11, 1920, aged seventy-six years, nine months and twenty-eight days. At the age of twelve years he came with his parents to Cass County, Michigan, remaining there a few years, and then moving to Coopersville.

February 29, 1864, he enlisted for service in the Civil War, in Co. G, Twenty-First Infantry and served his country until the close of the war, He was united in marriage to Mary J. Carter, April 3, 1866, and to this union was born two children, Melvin Stamp and Mrs. R. Kendall, both of Coopersville.

In 1903, he left the farm and came to town to spend his declining years. The past three years he was confined to the house but, without complaining, he patiently waited for the end.

Funeral services were held at the home, Sunday, May 16, Rev. Fred Garter officiating. Burial in the Coopersville Cemetery.
