Henry Toren

Henry Toren died at his home Tuesday afternoon, at the age of 81. More than 60 years ago he came here from the Netherlands. Upon his arrival here, he began work at the carpenter trade and finally became a building contractor. Many of the buildings in our business district were erected from his plans. For the past 20 years he has been a janitor in the local schools. He was a veteran of the Civil War, fighting throughout the struggle with Co. I, 25th Michigan. The funeral was held Saturday from the home, Rev. H. J. Veldman of the First Reformed Church officiating.

(Buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.)
