Edwin Washburn

Edwin Lewis Washburn was born in Gouveneur, St. Lawrence County, New York, December 23, 1840 and passed away at his home in Coopersville, Mich., Thursday, May 29, 1913, aged 72 years, 5 months, 6 days..

He enlisted in the U. S. S. Navy as orderly seaman the year of 1863 and served one year. He was married to Helen E. Himelburger at Grand Rapids, November 25, 1867. To this union six children were born, three dying in infancy.

Besides his widow, three daughters still survive him. They are Mrs. Jennie Kamp and Mrs. Minnie Jourden, of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Bertha Letson, of this place. He also leaves fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Melissa Smith. of Gouverneur, New York, and three brothers, Horace, and Charles Washburn of Coopersville and Levi Washburn of Ravenna. These with a great many friends are left to mourn their loss.

Mr. Washburn lived a very active life, attending to business up to within seven weeks of his death. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church Sunday, June 1, in charge of Rev. H. F. Moore. Burial was in the Coopersville Cemetery.
