Cpl. Gary Cole Is Awarded Air Medal for Valorous Action In Vietnam From Presque Isle County Advance and Onaway Outlook October 6, 2016

  
CAPTION:  Cpl. Gary R. Cole, U.S. Marines, was awarded a citation and air medal for combat service in 
Vietnam.  The citation, presented from the president of the United States and commanding general, fleet
marine force, Pacific also states: " For meritorious achievement in aerial flight in the Third Air
Delivery Platoon...and corporal Cole contributed materially to the success of his unit.  His courage
and devotion to duty in the face of hazardous flying conditions were in keeping with the highest
traditions of the U. S. Naval service.  Gary is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. von Forester of Afton.
Recently he sent his mother a set of China and stainless flatware.  His brother, Sgt. Bruce Cole, has 
left for duty in the Pacific.  Both are graduates of Inland Lakes Schools.
