CAPTION: Edwin Ritter said the wind was howling so loud he never heard this tree fall from his front yard into his house. The storm ran through the summer of 1979. Though he had no damage estimates yet, he said he will miss the huge maple. In other Onaway news, for better or worse, work had begun on Onaway's courthouse. The controversial restoration of the 71-year-old stone structure began July 9, 1979 when 11 workers funded by a $25,000 Comprehensive Employment and Training Grant rolled up their sleeves and cleaned out debis that had littered the building from roof to basement. The work was going to be for 17 weeks...in all-star action, Onaway's senior boys lost 8-7, despite Steve Larson's 10K performance. He allowed only five hits.
