CAPTION: Funeral services for Edward T. Burns of Onaway and Miami, Florida were conducted 50 years ago at St. Paul Catholic Church. He founded E.T. Burns Agency in Onaway. In 1946, he was instrumental in establishing a bank in Onaway and served as its first president. He resigned this post in 1950 so he could devote his time to personal business and continue an active role in church, social and civic affairs. He was a well-known businessman in Onaway and other northern Michigan communities. Additionally, he was a Knights of Columbus member since the age of 18. In other Onaway News, the town was in the grip of a searing drought. There had been less than an inch of rainfall since the end of May. Minor Oliver, Onaway State Park manager and operator of the official weather station, reported 1.23 inches of rainfall at the weather station since May 30. Crop damage throughout the state was extensive.
