CAPTION: Onaway's First annual Goodfellow newspaper sale ended on a high note of success despite inclement weather that began with cold rain in the morning. This was 50 years ago this week. A total of $366.08 resulted from the sale, which saw some 250 special copies of The Onaway News exhausted within the first hour. Proceeds of the paper sale went to the Onaway volunteer fire department for the purchase of baskets for needed families to supplement gifts of clothing already purchased and allocated through the school system. In other Onaway news, the campaign to raise funds for Onaway's street decorations and lighting fund bogged down with a total of only $55 having been received, according to chairman "Red" Isom. About $180 was needed to support the program's expenses for the year.
