CAPTION: Seaman Apprentice Gary D. Hoeft (above), 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Hoeft, Onaway, reported to Coast Guard district nine with headquarters at Cleveland, Ohio. He completed the 12-week recruitment training course in 1956 at the Coast Guard Receiving Center at Cape May, New Jersey. In other Onaway News, chief of police Higgins and undersheriff Ted Badgero finally rounded up the gang that had been causing much of the vandalism around town for several months. They had been stealing money and beer from the Shoemaker store. A member of the gang was finally caught and implicated others. The entire gang was going to be round-up and brought into court. Names were going to be withheld until after a trial.
