Metropole Fire
Submitted by Jo Doran
From Presque Isle Advance on June 28, 1951

Two men coming in from Black Lake about three o'clock Wednesday morning discovered fire in the Metropole block at
Onaway which resulted in a property loss estimated from twenty-five to thirty thousand do
Frazer's Bowling Alley, the office building of A.J. Bloom, John Lynn's livery, a pool room owned by Jerry Clemens and run by Campbell, Taggert's barber shop, and the Onaway Light and Power Co.'s office were destroyed and the Metropole hotel, owned by Jerry Clemens was practically destroyed, being badly burned on one side and in the interior.
This was published in the Presque Isle Advance on June 28, 1951 under the "And it seems like only yesterday" column. It was headlined 30 years ago. So am assuming it actually took place in June of 1921.
