CAPTION: The tension and suspense were over. But for Liz Rushton, Onaway's queen for
1978, a year of exciting adventure lied ahead. Wonder and excitement filled the Onaway
High School cafetorium, April 22, as Liz, the six other contestants, parents, relatives and
friends enjoyed the gala pageant. The rest of the contestants were Donna Perrino, Kay Krage,
Janet Pariseau, May Moran, Wendy Shaw and Sherry Davis. Judges were Betty Smolinski of Rogers
City, Evelyn Merchant of Atlanta and Jay Alexander of radio station WJML, Petoskey. They all
reported difficulty in selecting the winner. In other Onaway News, Roger Rehburg of the Upper
Great Lakes Regional Commission, addressed the Onaway Area Industrial Development committee
regarding the industrial and economic growth of the area.
