CAPTION: Fifty years ago: Napoleon Chagnon, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rollin Chagnon of Onaway, traveled to Venezuela and Brazil to work on an anthropological study to write a Doctor of Philosophy thesis. Chagnon returned home to visit his parents. He was going to return to Venezuela for another six weeks work after which he would return to the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor to write his thesis. Chagnon was planning to write one or more articles on his experience with the Venezuelan and Brazilian Indians for the Onaway News but the press of other interests made it necessary to defer the articles until his return. Most of his work was done in the southernmost areas of Venezuela in the state of Amazonas and sometimes reaching into the country of Brazil.
