In other Onaway news, the biggest story of the week was the board of directors of the Onaway Area Community Federal Credit Union withdrawing their proposal to purchase the land and tear down the Onaway Courthouse Building to make way for a new credit union building. Mayor Robert Nelson received a letter from the board, April 4, 1978, stating their two-fold reason for the move. "First, in view of the attitudes and opinions brought out at the public hearing held at St. Paul Catholic Church community hall and upon receiving appraisals and more details regarding costs of removing the existing building.
