CAPTION: The Onaway Falcons won the Northern Football League championship in 1997 for the second year in a row. The victory was the Falcons' 15th straight win and their third championship. They had won the crown in 1974, 1976, and 1977. Coach Dick Dunn said, "This is a darn good bunch of kids, there are a lot of real good friends here rather than just teammates." The Indian River Jets led 8-0 in the third quarter, but with 1:22 left in the third, Wayne Domke ran for a 35-yard touchdown. The conversion failed, leaving the score 8-6. Following an Indian River fumble and sweeps by Domke and Rick McDonald, Steve Larson scored from 3 yards out for the game-winning points. The rest of the players included, Jim Winter, Frank Mason, Scot Szymoniak, Pat Waite, Kyle Krage, Ron Malay and Phil Dunn.
