CAPTION: Orrin Freier and his wife accepted a certification of appreciation from Presque Isle County sheriff Duane Badder in February 1978. It was in recognition of their effort to raise money so the county could buy its first Jaws of Life. Knowing it would be difficult for one man to raise the $5,100 needed to purchase the equipment Orrin approached the Onaway Area Search and Rescue CB Club with the idea of raising enough money to buy the tool. Club members sold thousands of raffle tickets and other groups were enlisted to help with the fundraising drive. When it became apparent that the idea was more than just a flash in the pan, the county commission added a very generous amount to the drive and the goal was reached. The new equipment ws presented to the county in early October 1977. In other Onaway news, Mark Pomranke and Fred Dempsey qualified for the individual state finals in Grand Rapids.
