CAPTION: The Onaway High School (OHS) Symphonic Band, one of the finest in northern or southern Michigan and directed by Karan Pregitzer brought thrilling sounds to listeners in a packed house at their winter concert. Given the opportunity to attempt most demanding music, the students accepted the challenge and shared the rewards of a magnificent performance with their audience after months of exhausting practice. In other Onaway news, OHS senior Steve Waite received a letter naming him a finalist in the 1980 National Merit Scholarship competition. The certificate of merit recognized his standing as one of about 14,000 academically talented students competing for the 1980 scholarship. Waite was the first Onaway student to reach the finals.
