CAPTION: Onaway Cancer crusaders netted $1,096.83 during a two-week collection drive, according to organizer Anita Stockwell. Almost 50 percent of the money collected by 14 men and women in Onaway was to be used locally and the rest was to the American Cancer Society for research. Though short of the $1,500 goal, the money raised was still considered a major achievement for the people of the Onaway area. In other Onaway news, Onaway track and field athletes broke a record in Sault Ste. Marie. The mile-relay team set a record of 3:40:7, beating the old time of 3:41:6 by .9 seconds. The team of Mark Dunbar, Steve Waite, Mike Decker and Scott Stevenson had been among the top placing event teams for Onaway throughout the season.
