CAPTION: This is it! It is the first school building in Onaway. And, no, there were no fancy water fountains in 1888. In other Onaway News, newly appointed sheriff Duane Badder was at an Onaway City Commission meeting in early February 1978 to propose a solution to a problem with loose dogs that have plagued the city and county for a number of years. Badder told the Onaway City Commission that strays would be picked up and transported to the Cheboygan Humane Society and housed for a period of time before being euthanized. County prosecutor Larry Farmer was studying the 1919 law regarding animal control to be sure that the proposal was legal.
