CAPTION: Three men were running for mayor in the city of Onaway in November 1979. Harry Moran, Jr. was urged to run for mayor by many Onaway citizens. "There are two controversies in the city now and I agreed to run to see them settled," said Moran. Former Mayor Gordon Stiles also threw his name into the hat. "Rather than make statements about what I plan to do if elected, I'll stand on my past record," said Stiles. The third candidate was Orvil "Baldy" McQuaid. "When I say something, I'll back it up with no changing my mind." There were five candidates for two positions on the City Commission. The candidates included: William Robinson, Chuck Abshagen, Kay McClure, Earl Savage and Fred Stockwell. In other Onaway news, the 42nd annual meeting of Presque Isle Electric saw the re-election of Bole Centala, secretary; Melvin Basel, president; Melvin Maxwell, vice president and Robert Wegmeyer, treasurer.
