CAPTION: Onaway Football fans erupted when halfback Lee Berry swept around the right end to scamper 50 yards before being brought down. It was one of the highlight moments of the first game ever at Cardinal field. The Cards lost that night 50 years ago, 7-0, to Alcona. It was Sept. 17, 1965. It was one of the first fields in Michigan to be equipped with new mercury vapor color correted lighting floodlights. It also was the first-ever game at the new facility. The theme of the dedication ceremony was "A Community Effort for Community School Betterment," Bill Badgero and Bob Lonsdale were presented lifetime passes to Onaway High School athletic contests for sparking the project.
