CAPTION: Jay Poffenberger, retired Presque Isle County Coperative Extension director, was feted by more than 100 friends at his retirement banquet conducted in Onaway's St. Paul Catholic Church Community Hall. Extension associates from the local, district, regional and state levels were present as were the members of the Soil Conservation Service for whom Poffenberger worked before his years with the extension service. Poffenberger was in the extension service for years working in Oakland, Chippewa and Presque Isle counties. Prior to that time, he was employed by the Soil Conservation Service in Flint and the Soo. In other Onaway News, local, district and regional Michigan Department of Natural Resources personnel met with Willard Schaedig, superintendent of the Presque Isle Road Commission, at Shoepac Lake and discussed re-opening the recently closed access road from north of the lake. After the 1976 closing many objections were heard from those who had previously used the route.
