CAPTION:  It was 60 years ago the state Legislature lowered the speed limit in Michigan from 65 to 55 at night.
This is a photo of E.S. Matheson, general manager of Automobile Club of Mihcigan.  The law, passed in a special
session, state that th emaximum speed limits throughout the state shall be 65 mph during daylight hours and 55 
mph at night unless otherwise posted.  To help acquaint drivers with the new speed regulations, Auto Club's
safety and traffic division prepared more than 8,000 posters outlining the law.  In other Onaway News, Donna
Elenbass (photo, right) was onthe honor list at Michigan State University.
