CAPTION: Terry Horrocks, 16, of Onaway, won the purple grand champion ribbon with his 1,065 pound steer, Amos, at the Detroit Junior Livestock Show. This was a front page story, Dec. 13. The event was conducted Dec. 4 to 6 at the fairgrounds coliseum. Later in the show, Amos sold for a new record high price at the show. Wrigley's Stores Inc., Detroit, bid $8 a pound in a spirited bidding session. Total price was $8,520. To win the grand championship honors, Terry showed his steer in competition with 324 others. Also show at the event were 27 pens of three market hogs and 43 pens of three fat lambs. In other Onaway News, there were letters to Santa on the front page. Ross Boucher wrote: "I want a BB gun for Christmas and a set of building blocks, a big truck and Ricky wants a bicycle and toys. He is four and I am eight years old."
