CAPTION: A seminar examining the use of wood for heat was conducted in the library of Onaway High School. Michigan State University extension director Richard Long, representatives of the Onaway volunteer fire department and Michigan Department of Natural Resources forestry division personnel were present to explain the different types of heating equipment and fuel available and procedures to follow in home heating with a high degree of safety. Care and caution in the installation and maintenance of wood burning heating units were stressed in the videotape Long presented to more than 50 people gathered for the clinic...In other Onaway news, newly appointed Presque Isle County sheriff Mike Peltz addressed the Onaway City Commission, Dec. 3, 1979, and pointed out that one of the major priorities was to provide good coverage and fast response time to the Onaway area.
