Welcome to this website which is a part of MIGenWeb and USGenWeb, a network of websites that provide free online genealogical information. These websites are all volunteer and provide free information for your personal use.  This site is available for adoption.

The area that would become known as Sanilac County, was originally made part of St. Clair Co. for “judicial” purposes. The area extended to Saginaw Bay and west to Tuscola County

In 1848, the Legislature authorized the separate organization of the county and Lexington was the county seat until 1879 when it was moved to Sandusky.  In the Census of 1850, Sanilac Co. had three townships: Worth, Lexington and Sanilac. Worth and Lexington Townships were close to the present size; Sanilac Twp. included the rest of the territory in Sanilac and Huron Counties. more.......

To get the most out of this site please use the links at the left, you will find each link has several categories under the main heading.  You will find some new information and links that I hope will help you in your search.  I hope to add more information with a little help from you.  Any help you can provide would be a good addition to this site, even if it's just a link to a site that provides information on Sanilac County.  Please send any information to

We are in need of volunteers to do lookups.  If you can help please contact me.

Check out the new Photo Album for information on sending in your historical pictures.  We're just getting started on that and would love to add more photos.  Was your family one of the Early Settlers?  If so we would like to hear from you.

Do you have a Genealogy website for your Sanilac family?  We would love to add a link to it.

Please note that I do not do any of the research, I only put together this web site.  All information has been provided by volunteers and individuals just like you.  I can not help you with your search.  If you need help check out Lookups and hopefully one of them can help you.  Good luck in your research.
