LEONARD, Kirk Lewis

54, of Mist, Oregon, was born in Port Huron June 12, 1950. He is the son of the late Alton Lewis Leonard and Carol Ruth Smith. Kirk lost his long battle with illness at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon on July 12, 2004.

Kirk attended school in Port Huron, joined the United States Air Force in 1969 and served in Viet Nam. His life’s work was in the communications industry. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent a great deal of time in the Alaskan wilderness. He met and married his wife of 30 years, Carolyn Mitchell, a native of California, in San Francisco in 1974.

Kirk was a loving son, brother, husband, father and uncle. He had a strong and abiding faith; attended Grace Episcopal Church with his family as a youngster and was lately a member of the Vernonia, Oregon Episcopal Church.

Kirk was preceded in death by a sister Christine Paulette, father Alton, brother, Matthew; paternal grandparents Glenford and Margaret Leonard; maternal grandparents Stanley and Myrtle (Thomas) Smith. He is survived by his mother; wife Carolyn and daughter Faith; brothers Terry Robbins, Garth, Marc, Paul, Timothy and Glenn Leonard; sisters Kathleen and Carla; an aunt and uncle, Muriel and Glenn Smith of Port Huron; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Private services were conducted at Kirk's remote home outside of Mist, Oregon on July 17, 2004, with a scattering of his ashes on the land he loved so well.
